Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center

Mission Statement
To provide a safe and secure environment that meets or exceeds standards and delivers meaningful rehabilitative programs for detained juveniles.

Philosophy

The philosophy of Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center is that youth have the capacity to change and can be helped to achieve independence.  This can be done in their own communities and home, or through intervention of the Juvenile Justice System.  Even when a youth becomes delinquent and is eligible for detention, alternatives to confinement should be considered with the welfare of the youth primary in each case.

General Information

The Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center provides 24 hour 7 day a week services to juveniles between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age.  Referrals from other counties are accepted as space is available; however, the target population of Pulaski County receives first priority.  The Center has a capacity of 32 beds overseen by the Juvenile Detention Director.

The Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center is designed to reduce the number of juveniles presently held in the adult Regional Detention Facility and provide short-term care in a staff secure setting.  Pulaski County Juvenile Detention is located at 3001 West Roosevelt Road, Little Rock, AR 72204.  The Center consists of an Administrative Office, 2 housing units, each with a multi-purpose activity room.  Also included is an intake and release area, inside/outside recreation area, class rooms, visitation area for families and professional visits, medical staff and mental health staff. Medical, food and educational services are provided to the juveniles while they reside at Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Juvenile Detention Center is a member of the National Juvenile Detention Association, National Partnership for Juvenile Services and the Arkansas Juvenile Detention Association.  The staff attends local and national conferences, workshops, and training sessions to gain education and instruction to better serve the adolescents in our care.

The Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center staff is composed of a Director, Deputy Director, administrative staff, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Watch Commanders, Shift Supervisors and Detention Officers. The Center has teachers, instructional aides, and a registered nurse on duty. All of our officers receive 40 hours per year of pre-service and in-service training, in addition to CPR, First Aide and AED certifications.
