Pulaski County and North Little Rock host groundbreaking for Big Dam Bridge North Plaza

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. (September 21, 2022) – Pulaski County and the City of North Little Rock held a groundbreaking for the Big Dam Bridge North Plaza project in Cook’s Landing Park.

This project, which has been in planning for more than two years, will replace the pavilion damaged during the Arkansas River flooding in 2019.

“What’s good for North Little Rock is good for Pulaski County,” said Pulaski County Judge Hyde.

When completed, North Plaza will provide a space for visitors to congregate away from bike traffic, and it will have a new and improved pavilion that will replace the previous one damaged during flooding. Among its many features, the plaza will also have a bicycle repair station, benches,  and a drinking fountain with a bottle filler.

The project is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2023, weather permitting.

Hyde also mentioned that the Big Dam Bridge North Plaza is another example showing the importance of us all working together to serve our communities.

“We’re fortunate to have many wonderful individuals and organizations invested in not only our trails but also Pulaski County,” Hyde said.

“North Little Rock is fully behind the biking community and fully behind our judge.” North Little Rock Mayor Hartwick said. “It brings the community together, [and] the biking community keeps growing and growing.”

After their remarks, Hyde and Hartwick broke ground on the project with Charles Mobley of the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Little Rock, Bert Parker with Big Dam Bridge Foundation, Metroplan Deputy Director Casey Covington, and North Little Rock Parks Director Steve Shields.

Karen Trevino with the North Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, Derrel Hartwick with the North Little Rock Chamber and other community members were also present.

Judge Hyde thanked members of the community as well as the County Road and Bridge Department staff members who will be monitoring the construction of the plaza.
